Configuring the Devices software   Port Settings It is very important that you understand the basic concepts of setting up your devices with or without a Port Juggler. For instance, if you have a Color StyleWriter plugged into the printer port, you should make sure that you select the printer port icon in the Chooser when you select the Color StyleWriter driver.   Virtual Port Settings: PaperPort - Wacom - Fax software - ARA We provide virtual “ports” for the following devices, ONLY when attached to Port Juggler’s Port 1. It is imperative that if you have one of these devices or software assigned to Port 1, that you select the matching port name or icon within the devices or programs software. Here are some examples of these virtual port settings for: PaperPort software, Wacom tablet software, a few of the more popular fax software programs. Visioneer PaperPort & HP ScanJet 4s   When PaperPort is connected to Port Juggler’s Port 1, it gets a new port. Select the “PaperPort” port located in the Connections setting in the PaperPort Control Panel. Port Juggler will automatically activate and deactivate the PaperPort software when switching between devices on ports 2, 3, and 4. Wacom graphics Tablet   When the Wacom graphics tablet is connected to Port Juggler’s Port 1, it gets a new port icon. Select the “Wacom Port” port in the “Comm. Port” setting in Wacom’s Control Panel. Port Juggler will automatically activate and deactivate the tablet software when switching between devices on ports 2, 3 and 4. Fax software When a fax modem is connected to Port Juggler’s Port 1, it gets a new port icon. Select the “Fax" port within your fax software. Port Juggler will automatically activate and deactivate the fax software when switching between devices on ports 2, 3 and 4. Following are a few of the more common brands of fax software and their port setting locations. Otherwise refer to your fax software manuals to find where the settings are located.   GlobalFax (Global Village) Global Fax software settings are located in the Teleport Control Panel. Select "Select Port...", which will open a dialog window where you can select the "Fax" port. FaxSTF FaxSTF software settings are located in the STF Settings application, which is located within the STF™ folder on your hard drive. Once you are in the Settings, select Connection from the menu on the left. This will open the Connection Settings window on the right side. Select "Fax" port.   FAXcilitate   FAXcilitate software settings are located in a pulldown menu located in the top menu bar of the desktop window. Select the FAXcilitate icon, scroll down and select "Preferences", finally select "Fax Hardware". This will open a dialog window, select "Fax" port from the "Port" menu.   Apple Remote Access Port Juggler supports both Apple Remote Access server and client software. ARA Server without Fax Software If you are an ARA server and do not have fax software, assign Apple Remote Access to Port 1 on the Port Trigger List. After restarting the Mac, go to the ARA Control Panel and select the “ARA" port. Also check the box to answer calls. Port Juggler software will take care of automatically deactivating and activating the ARA software when switching between devices.   ARA Server & Fax Software If you want to have both fax and ARA software together you need to understand that only one or the other can be active at a time. Assign Apple Remote Access and Fax Modem to Port 1 on the Port Trigger List. Setup the fax software port settings to “Fax" port. Then go to the ARA Control Panel and select the modem port. The fax software will receive incoming calls until you check the box to answer calls in the ARA Control Panel. Port Juggler software will then deactivate the fax software and ARA will have control of the incoming calls. ARA Client If you are just using ARA as a client, you need to have the port setting match the port that the modem is connected to, either the modem port or printer port.
